The place that Valentino Fialdini loves most in the world is his home. He said so in an interview with Trend Tablet and you can see it in his eyes when he takes you through the rooms of his country villa near Todi in Umbria.Valentino and his wife Doris have chosen to leave their hometown San Paolo in Brazil and move here.
When you first meet them, you can tell that they have something special that characterizes each and both of them: charisma, passion for beauty, enthusiasm for a new life to be invented in a foreign country. They are natural-born host: entering their home one feels a warm, open and welcoming atmosphere.
Valentino Fialdini is an accomplished photographer, Doris Sochaczewski an entrepreneur and owner of a famous design shop in Sao Paulo – Coisas da Doris – now run by her daughter. Both have a great passion and an in-depth knowledge of design and art, which has resulted in the impeccable, but also unusual and personal taste of Locanda di Doris.
Before finding and chosing this location, Doris and Valentino and have explored Umbria for two years, in search of the perfect place to relocate. Leaving San Paolo was a big step, and they wanted to take it in the right direction, towards a place that suited their dreams of beauty, nature and tranquility. They knew exactly what they wanted and they would not have settled for anything less.
After much research, Doris and Valentino finally came on top of this hill in Cordigliano, near Todi, Umbria. The place enchanted them and they immediately felt that yes, this was “home”.
Here, the present structure was an old sheep barn that Doris and Valentino have completely renovated, preserving the characteristics of a country house, but without falling into clichés or affectations of country-chic design.
The house is a charming residence, where Doris and Valentino offer to guests two suites – “Love” and “Passion” – with entrance to the garden, thus making their home a unique “suite and breakfast”. The park is covered by 200 olive trees, a swimming pool and a beautiful garden.
“It is an unconventional form of tourism, respecting the environment, the landscape, the resources and the inhabitants of the territory. An invitation to discover their habits, traditions and customs slowly, without commitment to the clock. An opportunity to live the place, admire its beauty and heritage, and enjoy its typical food as a special time dedicated to well being. The famous dolce far niente.”
Doris and Valentino turned to Tomassini Arredamenti when it came to buy high quality design furniture.
“We were planning our interior design project and were looking for specific pieces from the collections of brands such as B&B Italia, Zanotta and Gervasoni. Coming from Brazil, we didn’t know anyone in Umbria but we were advised to turn to Tomassini Arredamenti who followed us and assisted us throughout the process, both in the choice of furnishings and the design of customized parts as the kitchen.”
In the next article we will see in detail the design furnishings chosen by Valentino and Doris. Meanwhile, do not miss the exhibition “Vedonero” Palazzo Morelli in Todi where the works of Valentino Fialdini will be on display until October 31.
