Knoll

Knoll is the pioneer of the modern design, one of the best known companies in the world. It has been founded in 1938 in New York as "The Hans G. Knoll Furniture Company", from an ingenious idea by Hans G. Knoll, a German industrialist specialized in the furniture sector. Hans G. Knoll inherited his father and grandfather's passion for furniture design, a passion that is consolidated with the birth, in those years, of the Bauhaus school where it assimilates a design philosophy that will accompany him throughout his life.

In 1942 was printed the first Knoll catalogue, it includes pieces of furniture made of wood and waste materials. In 1946 together with his wife Florence Schust, Knoll founded the “Knoll Associates”, the company paves the way to become one of the most appreciated brand of all time. The success comes through the lucky collaborations with the top international designers ever: Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Harry Bertoia, Frank Gehry, Maya Lin, Eero Saarinen, Charles Eames and Isamu Noguchi. They conceived real style icons: chairs, tables and armchairs that still embody the true essence of functionality and beauty. Among its most famous furniture we find: the Barcelona chair by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, the Tulip table and chairs by Eero Saarinen and the Wassily Chair by Marcel Breuer.
